does anyone switch sensory words on accident?
ex. earlier, when i saw something that looked good, i said “that smells good” even though it was online and couldn’t have a smell

I followed your advice. I cascaded the impulse selectors by a factor of 2.1, rather than my estimate of 1.8. This yielded a thermo-comb input value of 369.56 kħħ. I then set the compression heliotaur to the same value and almost lost the last year’s worth of data. On top of that, my wife’s entire collection of jazz sheet music has been wiped off our shared storage array. I’ve slept downstairs in the lab ever since.

2022.01.18 06:36 PolkieThaGawd Do the "Louisiana" accents get better over time??

I just started watching True Blood, I'm on season 1, episode 1 ... and the accents are killing meee. Some actors/actresses are legit dragging the accent, and they sound like they're from Kentucky. We don't sound like that here in Southern Louisiana. But at least the show is good so far, so whatever. Lol.

2022.01.18 06:36 SimplyNex My first developer job working for 8 months experience. Is it worth putting up with it?

Introduction Not sure if this is the correct place to ask for opinion but I got hired as a IT Application Developer as of May 2021. At the beginning I quickly realized that I was the only developer that can code that the company had hired. My other co-worker works with PowerBi, Power Apps, Azure Data Factory, and MS SQL basically a data engineer. The reason the company hired a IT Application Developer was because the methods they used to present reporting on ERP data and manage data with those platform has been limiting on some aspects. Anyways at the second week I had a meeting with my manager and he explained about a project they had in the back burner for over a year which involved automating data transformation from ERP to HCM and vice versa.
During the meeting I took notes on the situation and started to get working on it. After the meeting I was honestly kinda nervous on how I would be able to accomplish this project because my experience lies on making full-stack application using React, Vue, or Springboot with NOSQL or SQL using AWS for deployment. This was my first developer job I was able to get during my last semester in College and the only real experience I had was making a full-stack web app for 2 small clients around my city and what I learned from my college program.
Feature 1 I stopped my self on dwelling on how I would be able to accomplish the project and just did what I learned from college by gathering requirements. I started by gathering requirements by asking questions, creating DFD’s, outline steps for each of the 3 features this integration should be able to do, created architecture diagram, created Data dictionary for my database I was going to use to store the data, researched npm dependencies that can connect to SFTP server to obtain files and researched what Azure offers for running Node.js with a time trigger. I was tracking all of this in Azure DevOps boards to organize the tasks I created for me. Once I had all that I started to code and I for sure pushed myself on this project because I learned to code complex logic that was done manually when transforming the data. A lot of stack overflow and google lol!
Towards the end of June I finished coding the first feature and deployed it in Azure functions using docker images due to running into issues doing it with zip container since my code interact with the file system. And fully deployed working on July 5th… Btw I was also documenting the whole project in a technical document as I kept developing.
This is where one of the issues about this job I have (at the time I did not see it as an issue) there was instances where I was tasked to do IT Support during the development of that feature. In retrospect it is my fault for allowing it to begin with but kinda did not because I was glad to be able to get a job after graduating. I got so aquatinted with how things work at the company from network drives, printers, password resets, onboarding new employees, their on-prem AD server, Azure AD, MS 365 Admin portal, and remote assistance with Kaseya. Those things where very easy to deal with compared to coding a deep logic process and at the time I was like it gets me to get my mind out of code for a bit. Btw my actual work experience before getting hired for my company was only IT Support at University for 2 years so those things came easy to me.
Feature 2 So by July 13th I started working on the second feature of the project and had the code for it completed in August 9th (btw this was the hardest one for sure because I applied deep logic with SQL so many script that I ended up writing :p ) . During that time the same thing happened again where I would be in the middle of coding and my manager would call me over and asked if I mind doing this case because he was taking care of another ticket and the data engineer also. At the time it was getting more frequent and I over looked it and was like ok and solved the IT Support ticket. I was not put off by it because they had hired 2 IT Support Specialist due to the company wanting to use another platform for tickets instead of Kaseya. And so I was like ok good this means I can just let them take care of those things and I can focus on what I was hired to do.
The problem is that they where slow to pick things up and they would always ask me how to do this and that. And because I was trying to have them pick up things quick I would go out my way to show them how to do this and that so that in the future they would not need me. By August 2 I was basically unbothered working on things I needed to do and also working on creating templates for setting up project management in place because it is non existent in the company. Skipping to August 16th I deployed my Azure function to the cloud and also at the time I was doing deployment through Azure-CLI and man that was time consuming do delete resources and recreate them when I needed them. By this point I completed my second feature and was feeling good because I was doing what I like coding and support was being taken care by the other 2 guys and only really did 2 tickets during that time.
Feature 3 Finally, in Aug 19th I started working on feature 3 and did my initial commit to Azure Repo with the boiler plate with comments on how the process was going to be in my code. Pretty much IT Support tickets where not in sight for me and for whatever reason I had a guilty feeling for not doing it anymore but whatever. During this time my manager had a Teams meeting with everyone in IT department and mentioned that we will be all doing this project where we check up on all 500 employees the company has to make sure they have MFA, not expired passwords, sync with Onedrive, Lastpass, etc to make sure the companies users where good and aware of the resources IT has for them. Basically I was given a list of 85 people or so that I would contact and present them with a powerpoint slide and walk through them and make sure they have all those things. At this point I was like is this what the IT title entail?? Like as long as I work I will be doing IT related things also. I did not dwell in that too much and was like fine I will just set up MS Planner and send a mass email to the people in my list and they book their time with me and if they don’t set up a time not my responsibility. So I was working with code and doing this initiative project with users and I remember that at the same time my manager said to focus on creating templates for project management. I was in a situation where I was helping users, creating a template for project charter and coding in one day.
Eventually in August 31st my mom was not feeling well at all and so I went to get tested with her because we thought it was COVID and the day after it turns out she was positive and I was negative. So I emailed my manager about it and told me to quarantine at my house for 2 weeks and work from home. 3 days later I started to develop symptoms and went to get tested again and came out positive. My manager was pushing to take off until I was good again and because I had this things where I felt like I have not gotten much done with my code I told him nah I can keep working from home. During those 2 weeks I was coding, doing that initiative thing with users and man those are the dark ages there I was literally a shut in for 2 weeks. By September 27th I has finished coding my 3rd feature, created a total of 21+ templates from project charter to the knowledge areas, had 46 total users that I talked to with the presentation and where good and had completed my user manual for the project.
Supporting Project From that point on I was pretty much supporting my creation that I had coded by fixing bugs, expanding on conditions, refining the data transformation, and adding notification to notify involved users. Created Azure Pipelines that does CI and CD for me when I commit to the pipelines branch with changes. But the month of October was the worst because one of the IT Support Specialist got a better job offer and left in October 8th. The other guy was out because he was going to get surgery and so that whole month of October was 80% of my time doing IT Support tickets when I went to work. Then 20% was spent on coding so fixing issues or improving on my current work.
During the second week of doing it constantly I asked myself is this what I went to college for to deal with IT Support tickets? During that month they where saying they where in the process on getting a replacement for the guy that left and an extra guy. That is honestly what kept me going knowing that it was going to get better. I totally was dreading to go to work and by November 12th the new guy was hired and the other guy came back. What mostly bothered me was that at the beginning of October I started the Azure Developer 30 day challenge so I can get half off on the certification exam and never got to complete it.
Introduction of a new Project On November 15th I had a meeting with my manager and thanked me for my hard work and introduced a new project for me to do. This project deals with getting order information from the ERP system that will be able to display that information in GUI. Basically create a full-stack application from the ground up that does that, has SSO with our Microsoft AD tenant, note taking abilities, and automating emails to customers when data changes. At this point I was excited again because this is my realm of experience and so I got work. Gathered the requirements, used the project management templates I had created, documented my solution with ERD and Architecture Diagram.
By December 17th I had designed the main home page for the application using Figma and then went to my 2 week vacation. Before I went to vacation I was basically told by my manager that someone should be able to support my first project if something goes wrong and told him this is why I wrote a detailed User Manual with a troubleshooting section to solve common issues I have seen since I created the code. He told me to basically have a meeting with the data engineer and give him a run down about all my stuff going on and so I did. During the second week of my vacation I get a email from the guy I work with closely that knows a lot about the ERP system and tells me that the excel sheet was not sending the data to my database once the changes where made to it. I got on my computer to fix the issue and it turns out it was because they added an extra space to one of the entries and so it was not updating to my database. At this point I realized that no one else can really support this unless they know code and I’m in a situation that every time I take off and if any issues arises I need to take to take care of it since no one else can. I came back to work on January 3rd and finished my GUI design mock up on January 17th.
On top of all this I have to deal with a IT Security Specialist was hired that has been on top off my things that are deployed in the cloud with asking me random questions about why is this not enabled, or why is this that way. I have told them that I have documentation on how my whole system works and to please look at it and come back to me once you have gathered on flaws you find. And its kinda annoying for example they tell me to to enable certificates for it to be secure and told them I will look into it. And so I spend time to read up on MS docs about the feature and the use case for it. From my understanding it is used to verify client that is connecting to client side place but my Azure functions does not depend on people connecting to it but the code connects to a SFTP server and makes request call to HCM api. Both of those a user is not interacting with my system and so I explain this to them with a detailed email with articles to the explanation from MS. What bothered me is that they did not bother to read the articles link from the MS docs I linked with the explanation and at this point why I’m going out of my way to be detailed.
Having to deal with all this responsibilities and getting paid 63k as my salary and finding out that the IT Support guys have a salary of 60k and the IT Security person is getting paid 75k. Like I’m I crazy for feeling like this? Is this fair ? As it stands now I plan to finish this new project in late April.
Conclusion I know that it is a long explanation but basically I’m a one man team that plans, designs, codes, tests, deploys and documents. With also responsibilities involving IT Support ranging from solving printer issues to onboarding employees. Since I was grateful to be given the opportunity to work as a developer straight out of college with no work experience other than the 2 small project I had done. Told my self that I will work here for 1 year to gain experience in the industry and ask for a raise or looks else. But man this has been tough 8 months for sure. Especially finding out the salary of my co-worked made me feel undervalued for the work that I do. I have learned a lot for sure. Do y’all think I should stick with it since I will be the founder of the development team once they decide to expand? Update my resume and start applying for a better offer?
Has the work I have done as a developer merit more than what I’m getting paid? The reason I ask this is because I feel like the project I finished is not enough merit for me to ask for a raise and waiting til I finish the second project. Since this is my first developer job I’m not sure how it is like for others. I would appreciate if I can get insight or opinions. Thank you for reading my little essay 😅

2022.01.18 06:36 Ironmonger3 What's the line between diversification and spreading yourself thin ? Is there a fix range ?

So I'm a newcomer, entered the space at the April 2022 ATM and didn't quit since then. I'd say I'm breaking even now which is good but did a lot of stupid mistakes which cost me (bought Doge after Elon got on SNL, not lying I'm one of those idiots).
I currently hold a very diverse - albeit small - portfolio which consist mainly of BTC ETH BAT ADA SOL DOT BNB ONE MATIC COTI KSM EOS CAKE SUSHI so that's already 13 cryptos that represent around 90% of my folio. On top of that I also hold a very small bag of AVAX LUNA VET GRT OGN PHALA. So that's 20 crypto in total.
I honestly feel like that's way too much. I get that being diversified is essential but I was caught too much into it when I'm started and I'm wondering have I mad the wrong choice(s) because of FOMO ? That's totally why I bought AVAX and LUNA just this month (Fun story I bought both dirt cheap in may/june and then sold them shortly after, yeah I'm THAT stupid).
How much should I reduce it ? I heard Guy from Coin Bureau say that 9 crypto should be the maximum otherwise you're spread too thin and can't follow. Do you agree with this number ? Or would you rather give a range ? What would it be ?
I'm afraid of doing stupid mistakes again now that I just broke even so if I'd was to swap some of what I hold what should I give up ?
TD;LR : Beginner spread portfolio too thin because of FOMO now he doesn't know how to make it more thick. Yes I said thick.

2022.01.18 06:36 Oreo0716 How do I get past a weight loss slump?

Im a 21 F and im 5'4 my cw is 151 my gw is 125 my sw was 175. I began losing weight in September 2021. At first it was really easy for me as I found calorie counting fun and began to really enjoy meeting my goals for staying hydrated at about 92oz of water a day. I found foods I quite enjoyed that were healthy and low calorie and I quit sugary drinks completely. The weight began to shed and I felt really encouraged at how easy it felt for me. But Ive hit a slump. For a while at my job we were really short staffed so I was working 11-930 shifts in between 3-4 out of my 5 shifts of the week. This schedule was temporary but I went through that for almost a month which is where I am now. Through those weeks I became very burnt out and now that I am no longer working that schedule I have time to breathe but I am SO exhausted with myself. Ive noticed Im really becoming lazy with my calorie counting/tracking and am barely setting goals for staying hydrated. Ive been stuck at 150 for the past two weeks and am now at 151 instead. For the past few days Ive honestly stopped caring because Ive over indulged and ate how I use to pre weightloss. I really do not want to lose all my progress but I am just burnt out in general. Any tips on how to encourage myself to get the energy to get back on track would be greatly appreciated! Thanks :)!

2022.01.18 06:36 SwevenWhelve Outdoor cat and foxes

Hello. I have indoooutdoor cat who is the happiest when she is outside. She comes and sleep inside every night tho, but during the day, she is mostly outside. We live in a small farm, away from any roads, so there is literally no chance of her getting hit by a car. So my main concern are foxes. Ive never seen one around but i know they are here. I do realize they mostly hunt at night, when my cat is usually inside already, but im pretty scared bc of that. We moved here a month ago, before that we lived in area where there were no foxes. So how can i protect my cat as much as possible? Is there any fox repellant that would help? Maybe spiked collar when shes outside?? Anything at all that would make her a little bit safer?

2022.01.18 06:36 Several_Sun_1214 Am I the only one ordering everything online?

Apart from groceries/food, I order everything else online. I don't know the last time I went to a big box store to buy anything. I just look it up online, compare a few items and order the one I like the most. Whereas, one of my friends goes to big box stores any time he needs something, spends the whole day trying to find what he's looking for and then drives back home. I seriously don't see the point when online shopping is 10x more convenient.

2022.01.18 06:36 loweffort69 3 Strikes, I’m out.

Sorry for the big text but I really wanted to tell this story.
So a couple of years back I needed to look for a new job. Eventually I found one in a huge warehouse where I became supervisor. I had studied Logistics so I knew a lot of the basics but I’ve never had a leading role before so I was quite nervous but eager to learn. The only thing odd for me was that the function I had was for “assistant supervisor” where the same function anywhere else was “supervisor”, but I didn’t think too much of it.
I started at a smaller department and very early it became clear that I found a job that I was born for. I was quick to gain the trust and respect of my team and I lead the team in a way that my team felt comfortable enough to come to me with both their personal as work-related problems and I could count on them to get the results that was expected.
After only a couple of months I was asked if I would switch departments. I had ambitions to grow so I said yes, as I know that saying no to these requests could limit my future opportunities. So suddenly, after only 3 months on the job, I got the biggest department where every other department was dependent of.
Straight after I switched to my new role we faced a crisis. A lot of bad luck led to a backlog of work that would take us months to get done. In these times, there was a lot of pressure from upper management but it wasn’t solved easily. 2 months in this crisis we hit a low where my supervisor called in sick because of a burn out, not that this was a problem as he was highly unqualified for his job and had already made sure to dump as much of his work as possible on to me. His manager disappeared for a while before getting promoted away and his manager was also at home with a burn out. Suddenly I was the only one people were looking to for decisions I did not know anything from that could cost or benefit the company millions.
I did what I could, made some decisions that were well above my paygrade but always made sure that higher management would know that I made that decision and why I made it. When everything started to became calmer I got a visit from the Senior VP (who was 4 steps above me) to say that they were very much impressed with my work.
Straight after crisis 1 there was an opening for the job of my boss. Since I’ve been taking over a lot of his work I decided to take my shot. I didn’t get the job because I was only there for 1 year, but I got praises for middle management for the past year and they assured me my time would come.
New bosses came in and I had a great time. My bosses were the best ever, I got a lot of freedom in my job and my results were on par. In this time I created a couple of tools to help us survive the next crisis easier.
After more than a year some switches were made and my bosses became middle management opening up the spot again. Since I just got my yearly review where I was told I was exemplary for the role and full of potential, I put in my resume and had a really good interview. In the end I did not get it, I was officially told that even though it was really close, the other candidate was just a little better. I could live with that but later I found out (through somebody off management) that they already had a candidate who they wanted for the job but the candidate did not want it and they kept asking him to apply his resume which he did on the last day and then I got the news that I didn’t get the job.
I went back to my job that I still loved and carried on, even though my old boss now came back and I knew I had to do a lot of extra work, unpaid. I was told I would be considered a “high potential” and definitely needed to make sure I would try again the next time they were searching.
After this, covid happened. Just before my country went in to lockdown I got sick. I had a sore threat, cough, in general symptoms of covid but there was no testing yet. I had symptoms for 2 weeks so I stayed at home with a doctor’s note for 2 weeks. This was the first time I stayed at home sick for 3 years.
When I came back it was a full blown crisis again. It took us months to recover, using some of the systems I made with no help from my own supervisor to get in a comfortable position. After this, my boss quit and his position opened up but only externally.
When I went to ask why it wasn’t possible to apply internally I got the answer that my effort was not good because I stayed at home for 2 weeks during the first lockdown. I had a small discussion about why this wasn’t mentioned before or what I should have done with covid symptoms or why that I have been working every Saturday since then and still not made enough effort but got no reasonable answer.
I came home that day utterly disappointed and felt that I wasted years. At the same day I got a mail to come for a job interview for the same job I currently had in another company (I got this daily, it’s a job that’s in demand). I went and found an employer who would pay me 30% more for the same job, got me better benefits, a yearly raise, a yearly bonus and a decent work-life balance.
I handed in my resignation and stopped updating the tools I made. I gave them a guide how to do it for themselves but nobody bothered. Last I heard they are full on in crisis again and the manager who did not hire me is about to be fired.
